The first High Point Coffee Dodgeball Challenge, held Saturday, April 12 at Germantown Athletic Club, was a great success!
Ten teams from around the area came out to play for a good cause — Playhouse on the Square — and helped High Point Coffee raise more than $7,200 for Playhouse.
Thanks to all the teams that participated and to the spectators who came out to cheer them on. Congratulations to our first and second place teams — The Ladykillers and Hit for Brains.

High Point Coffee will present the High Point Coffee Dodgeball Challenge to benefit Playhouse on the Square in Memphis, Tenn., at Germantown Athletic Club on Saturday, April 12 from noon to 6 p.m.
Registration
Teams can pick up registration forms by visiting any area High Point Coffee and other supporting businesses. Registration materials also can be downloaded below and submitted to Jessica Neal via fax at 901-544-7163 or by e-mail to jessica@obsidianpr.com. To reserve your team’s spot and turn in your information on the day of the event, please call Jessica Neal at 901-484-8920.
Cost is $150 per team. Team registration forms are due to Memphis-area High Point Coffee locations by April 9, 2008, but forms also will be accepted on the day of the event. Team fees will be collected during check-in on the day of the event. Fees must be delivered as cash or check.

Challenge Format
The tournament will include a maximum of 32 teams who will compete in best-of-five matches until the first and second place winners remain. Four games will be played at one time.
Day of the Challenge
Team check-in will begin at Germantown Athletic Club at 11:30 a.m. Every team must report to check-in to turn in fees and receive their brackets. Please arrive on time to check in and sign necessary forms.
Basic Dodgeball Rules
Detailed rules are available at www.MemphisDodgeball.com. Please review the rules before the tournament.
- Players must be at least 18 years old.
- Six players playing per team. Up to 10 players to a roster.
- A match consists of a five-game series. Teams change court/sides after each game. Players then take a position behind their endline. After a signal by the official, teams approach the centerlines to retrieve the balls.
- Balls must be taken back across their attack line before they can be thrown at an opposing player. If the ball is not taken behind the attack line before it is thrown, the throw will not count. There are two attack lines on each side, just a little away from the center line.
- If an opposing player is hit with any ball that has not yet touched the floor, wall or ceiling, that player is out.
- Play continues until one team is eliminated.
- The first team to win a majority of games wins the match.
About Playhouse on the Square
Founded in 1969, Playhouse on the Square is the only resident professional theatre company in the Mid-South. For 39 years, it has been delighting and enlightening audiences and making theatre available to everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Playhouse conducts an extensive youth and outreach program; an intern program whose graduates have gone on to New York and other theatre towns; and provides incubator space for emerging theatre groups and playwrights.
Having grown from a small home in a small house to three theatres in Midtown, Playhouse is now building a state-of-the-art theatre and performance space to present shows without the technical constraints of the current facility and enhance the theatrical experience for audience members. The theatre also will be available for use by other performing arts groups in Memphis that need a more intimate presentation space. Playhouse on the Square’s capital campaign, “Breaking New Ground,” has raised more than $10 million with a goal of $15 million.
